Installing Debian
- One may Install Knoppix to Hard Disk or
- Acquire the Debian CDs and follow the directions. Installing from the proper CD set is preferable.
- Before beginning the install determine what type of video card is in your computer and what chipset it is using
- and know your monitor screen size, resolution and freq.
- If possible, ensure that you are connected to the network when the installation is performed so you can be automatically configured to access the network.
If installing using a modem to access the internet you will need to know the modem chipset.
- If not using DHCP to acquire a dynamic IP address you should acquire a static IP address from your network manager.
- Determine the MAC address of your Network Interface Card.
- When partitioning drive create 2 physical partitions, one for boot and one for swap. Create the swap partition first. You will need to change the "Type" of the swap partition to swap.
- To toggle between cyrillic and latin alphabet I chose left Windows key.
- Samba domain name = lynchburg.edu
- During the configuration process select "Use Md5 passwords with shadowing"
- To revisit the configuration process run /usr/sbin/bas-config
